Emily J. Kuo joined Harrison & Held, LLP at its formation in 2003. She practiced with Lou, Rob, and Carole in the Wealth Preservation Group at Lord, Bissell & Brook, LLP from 1998 to 2003.
She served as Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Gordon J. Quist of the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan
for the 1997-98 term.
She has lectured for DePaul University's Certificate Program in Financial Planning. Since 2003, she has been lecturing at the "Illinois Estate Administration" and "Estate, Trust & Guardianship Litigation" seminars sponsored by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
Emily earned her J.D. in 1997 from the University of Chicago Law School, where she served as a Comment Editor for
The University of Chicago Legal Forum and published a student comment entitled
"The Enforceability Gap of Covenants Not to Compete in Telecommuting Employment Relationships,"
1996 The University of Chicago Legal Forum 565. She received a B.S. in Business
Administration summa cum laude and with highest distinction from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1994, graduating as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Emily and Lou have published the IICLE practitioner handbook chapters entitled, "Attorneys' Fees:
An Assessment of the Current Standards for Fee Awards,"
Litigating Disputed Estates, Trusts, Guardianships and Charitable Bequests
(Ill. Inst. Cont'g Legal Educ., 2009); and "United States Estate
(and Generation-Skipping Transfer) and Gift (and Generation-Skipping Transfer) Tax Returns,"
Illinois Estate Administration (Ill. Inst. Cont'g Legal Educ., 2003 and 2006 Supplement).
Emily is admitted to practice in Illinois and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the Chicago Bar Association.
