Mary-Ann Wilson practices in the areas of estate planning, trust and estate administration, and business succession planning. Her experience includes:
- Developing estate plans that meet clients' personal and family goals and that minimize taxes, both now and for future generations
- Conducting family meetings between multiple generations of a client's family, to share everyone's perspective on the family-wide estate planning goals and fine-tune the client's plan
- Negotiating the terms of clients' major charitable gifts
- Creating governance structures for family foundations
- Advising clients on all aspects of the administration of trusts and estates, from post-mortem estate planning (such as the use of disclaimers to achieve unique tax results for the next generation) to liquidity issues (such as qualification under Code Section 6166 to pay estate taxes in installments and avoid liquidating a closely held business)
- Representing estates during IRS audits of estate tax returns, especially in the area of closely held business and investment entities
- Reforming existing trusts with obsolete or omitted provisions, both through inter-beneficiary agreements and court actions
- Solving business succession issues through a multifaceted approach which could involve elements of lifetime gifting, estate planning, and/or the sale of stock to key managers and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan
